DISCOVER OUR WINES

OUR FIRST VINTAGE

The vineyard covers 40 acres and is divided into three separate blocks. The first block we planted 12,000 vines in 2021 consisting of 8000 Pinot Noir and 4000 Bacchus. In 2022 we planted another 28 acres of Pinot noir and Bacchus to increase those areas, Cabernet noir, Meunier and Chardonnay. In total today we now have 50,000 vines and we are the largest vineyard in Shropshire. We bought the farm 9 years ago and had the idea of a vineyard while in conversation with Katie’s mum Joan four years ago discussing how the crop planted for the previous 5 years had not succeeded. Joan suggested grapes and a vineyard, as we already had an interest in wine, which gave us the idea we needed to start a new venture whilst being highly sustainable due to our background working in renewable energy.

The terroir in the vineyard is a loamy soil on a bed of sandstone which provides nutrition to the vines but with a natural purification of the sandstone. This also provides minerality to our wines. The vines are planted east to west on long slopes which fall down to the river tern. The vineyard has it’s own microclimate with the river moderating the temperatures slightly cooler but keeping a fresh breeze through the vines, helping to prevent disease with sun all day long. The rolling banks encourage any frost to roll away from the vines to the river or to settle on low land preventing frost damage during the early months of the year when the vines are at their most vulnerable.

OUR WHITE

After planting 4000 bacchus vines 4 years ago on our mineral rich, sandy, stoney land we had high hopes for our first vintage. With lots of research and hard work caring for the vines and learning along the way to achieve the best quality, most flavoursome wine we can, we have the best first vintage we could wish for!
